6 human agents held

GUJRANWALA, Oct 31: The federal investigation agency (FIA) claimed on Wednesday to have arrested six human agents, including two top-ten criminals, in different raids.

FIA additional-director Husain Asgher said top-ten human smuggler Malik Kashif was arrested from Gujrat. He had collected Rs900,000 per head from people for sending them to Spain, Mr Asgher said and added that Tahir Mahmood was arrested from Hafizabad, Haji Qaiser Mahmood and Muhammad Afzal from Qazi Chak (Gujrat), Khwaja Mahmood and Ghulam Rasool from Kharian.

He said they had received Rs600,000 per head from people for sending them to Greece through Iran and Turkey borders.

He expressed the hope that the remaining accused involved in human smuggling would be arrested soon.

STRIKE: The commission agents and workers of grain markets of Kamoki and Wahando areas observed a shutter down strike on Wednesday against what they said manifold increase in licence fee.

Reports said commission agents and workers of grain markets took out a rally and chanted slogans against the government. The rice dealers association also protested against the government for enhancing licence fee from Rs600 to Rs6,000 for commission agents and for rice dealers from Rs7,000 to Rs25,000 per annum.

They demanded withdrawal of the increase.

Owing to strike, paddy growers stored their crop outside these markets or along the roads as commission agents declined to procure it till their protest.

SECURITY ALERT: The district police have tightened security, particularly in Cantonment area and police lines, and provided bulletproof jackets to officials for patrolling of the sensitive areas.

This was stated by City Police Officer DIG (Operations) Khadim Husain Bhatti at a press conference at his office here on Wednesday.

He said electronic speed breakers were also being constructed in these sensitive areas.

He claimed that the district police had arrested 15 members of four gangs of robbers within a week and recovered huge quantity of looted goods and illicit arms from their possession.
