TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 30: Members of the District Nazim Chaudhry Abdul Sattar’s group boycotted the district council meeting which was called by naib nazim Chaudhry Khalid Sardar on Tuesday.
A nazim group’s spokesman claimed that only four of their members, Mian Naseer Ahmad, Chaudhry Ramzan Cheechi, Rai Zubairullah Khan and Mulazim Abbas Gadhi, were sent to the meeting and as they pointed out a lack of quorum, the meeting was postponed.
Prior to this, Mr Gadhi alleged that the naib nazim group had changed the minutes of the last meetings and forged their signatures.
Meanwhile, some 60 members of the ruling group have accused DCO Nawazish Ali of supporting the naib nazim-led group and said it had resulted in the illegality of changing of the resolution passed by the house. They said the DCO’s attitude was creating hurdles in the smooth functioning of the district council.
District Naib Nazim Chaudhry Khalid Sardar confirmed that the meeting was postponed as some ruling party members had pointed out an incomplete quorum. He, however, denied making any change to the minutes of the previous meetings.
STRIKE PLAN: Fruit and vegetable commission agents at Pirmahal market have decided to go on strike for an indefinite period from today (Wednesday) as a protest against levy of undue taxes by the agriculture marketing department.
A meeting held on Tuesday demanded that the government should withdraw the taxes, otherwise, they would continue their protest.
ROBBERY: A teacher was robbed of cash and ornaments worth hundreds of thousands of rupees here on Tuesday.
Reports said Surraya Jamil was busy shopping at Talab Bazaar when four people, including a woman, bundled her into a car and snatched cash and jewellery from her on Akalwala Road. They left her at the deserted place.
CONTRACT EXTENDED: The education department on Tuesday extended for another five years the contract period of 492 educators working in different schools of the district.
