Catches won the match for us: Smith

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, Oct 29: South African skipper Graeme Smith said some unbelievable catches held by his boys paved the way for his team’s win against Pakistan in the deciding fifth One-day International here on Monday.

Speaking to reporters shortly after his side’s stunning win at Lahore, Smith said that though his team was 10 runs short in setting a winning target for Pakistan, the fielders took brilliant catches to change the fate of the match in last overs of the game

He said winning Test and ODI series on the Sub-continent soil was a great success and it would also boost the morale of his men as they geared up for the New Zealand and the West Indies series ahead.

Praising Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan for their effort on Monday, Smith said both were dangerous players who had the ability to turn the match at any stage.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik said he had learnt a lot and his team will regroup to analyse the shortcomings during the series before embarking on the challenging tour of tour of India, starting Nov 5.

He lamented that while the bowlers bowled impressively against the Proteas, the openers and lower middle-order batted recklessly to spoil the game.
