LARKANA, Oct 29: The chairman of the Sindh National Front (SNF) Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto on Monday observed how the election commission would enforce its Code of Conduct, which proposed that any person, who had changed political party more than once to join the ruling party, would be disqualified from taking part in any election.
In a letter addressed to Kanwar Muhammed Dilshad, secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Oct 27 Mr Bhutto said that ruled were adequate but how the commission would enforce them.
The officers involved in the election process had become so accustomed to rigging that they probably did not even know how to conduct fair elections, he said.
As for the guardians of law and order, in Sindh at least, they had become totally corrupt, ineffective and useless thereby losing people’s confidence, he said, adding they could not enforce the code of conduct.
He suggested incorporating the provision that any person under trial for corruption or any other criminal offence would not be eligible for taking part in any election if it appeared that he had deliberately delayed proceedings to avoid the verdict against him.
He said that corruption and betrayal had made politics disreputable in Pakistan and very firm measures were required to clean up the mess.
