KARACHI, Oct 29: As the heat rises in politically and otherwise, the administration of the University of Karachi finds itself in a fix in terms of scheduling upcoming degree class examinations for college students as well as external candidates, Dawn has learnt.
The examinations are normally held in November and December but the university is yet to announce a timeframe or provide colleges the details of relevant activities. As a result, students have become so perturbed that some have started calling newspaper offices for information.
According to a source on the KU campus, the administration is being unable to finalise a schedule in wake of the city’s volatile law and order situation and the fact that the political heat is only likely to rise. In this regard, the university is approaching the city district government Karachi and the Sindh Home Department to seek advice regarding the scheduling of examinations. The source added that the degree class examinations would follow the regular semester examinations on the campus, which have already been delayed by a few weeks.
Dr Akhlaq Ahmad, pro-vice chancellor of the university, acknowledged the concerns but said that college principals and other relevant office-bearers in the local and provincial governments would meet very soon to review the situation and work out a final solution. He told Dawn that the university intended to initiate degree class regular and private examinations in phases, as it had done in the past, by the end of November at the latest. However, he said, he would be able to give confirmed dates in the first week of November.
