Vejmelka wins ITF Futures tournament


ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Top-seed Adam Vejmelka of Czech Republic defeated Romania’s Bogdan-Victor Leonte 6-4, 6-4 to capture the men’s singles title of the Pakistan Futures International Ranking tennis tournament at PTF Complex’s clay courts on Sunday.

The two fought for every point though Vejmelka was superior in ground strokes and down-the-line shots.

Two back-to-back Futures International Ranking Tournaments will now be played in Lahore from Monday.—APP

Our Reporter adds from Lahore: Eight players, including one from Pakistan, have qualified for the main draw of the ITF tournament after completing a round of 32 matches at the Cosmopolitan Club grass courts on Sunday.

Players from Pakistan, USA, Romania, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Czech Republic, Malaysia, Korea, UK and Uzbekistan will be competing in the main round of the tournament.

Nomi Qamar is the only Pakistani who qualified for the event after defeating compatriot Umair Qayyum 6-2, 6-0.
