No dist council session in Dera : Four months of mistrust
By Our Correspondent
DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 28: The district council has been unable to meet for the past four months because of mistrust between the district nazim and his deputy even after the withdrawal of a no-confidence motion against the council’s convener and nazim a couple of months ago.
District Nazim Maqsood Ahmad Khan Leghari’s group had tabled a no-confidence motion against Naib Nazim Dost Muhammad Khosa during the budget session of the council.
Mr Khosa had allegedly adjourned the session abruptly till next day for debating the budget contrary to the desires of the district nazim who wanted the approval of the budget on that day.
Under the law, it is mandatory for the council to hold its meeting every month and all the executive district officers (EDOs) are bound to present reports of their departments concerned before the council.
Since no session has been held for the past four months, no such reports or reports of the monitoring committees of the council have been tabled before the council.
Sources told Dawn that Mr Khosa frequently wrote to the EDOs requiring them to submit their reports but to no avail.
It is worth mentioning here that the district council is running without the establishment of offices of the auditor and the ombudsman as well as constitution of the District Public Safety Commission. Only one session of the council has been held during this financial year.
