GUJRANWALA, Oct 27: A man who allegedly kidnapped his eight-year-old cousin and received Rs3 million ransom was killed along with his accomplice in a shootout with police near Alipur Chattha on Saturday. The police recovered the kidnapped boy and Rs1.2 million paid as second installment of the ransom by his family. However, two of the kidnapper’s accomplices fled.

Tassawar along with his three accomplices had kidnapped his cousin Muhammad Hussain, son of Shamshad Ali of Rasulpura, Dhullay, on Oct 16 and demanded Rs3 million ransom.

Hussain’s father, an expatriate Pakistani, paid Rs1.8 million after bargaining, however, the outlaws continued insisting for the remaining Rs1.2 million to release the boy.

On Saturday, Shamshad paid the second installment of ransom and informed the police.

DIG Khadim Hussain Bhatti formed two police teams led by Dhulley SHO inspector Fazal Sarra and Alipur SHO inspector Afzal Bhatti which cordoned off the kidnappers’ hideout near Fatehpur locality and persuaded them to surrender but they resorted to firing. The police retaliated and Tassawar and Babar were killed in the ensuing shootout while their two accomplices fled. The Alipur police started investigations.
