JI opposes use of force in Swat

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 27: The government should resolve the troubles in Swat through negotiations and avoid the use of force, says Jamaat-i-Islami’s provincial chief Sirajul Haq.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, Sirajul Haq said the government could establish peace in the area through the use of force but only innocent people would suffer. He added that people who were engaging security forces in a useless war could not be well-wishers of Pakistan.

He said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) were ready to initiate negotiations to solve the issue if the government stopped its military operation there.

Mr Siraj said that America was trying to sabotage peace efforts and agreements. He said that a peace agreement was signed in North Waziristan Agency with the MMA’s help, but the US had opposed the deal. He alleged that some elements were trying to level the ground for inviting Nato forces.
