KARACHI, Oct 26: Lahore Ravi restricted Karachi Whites to a modest first-innings total of 218 on the opening day of the second round Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship fixture at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium here on Friday.
Former international Junaid Zia grabbed two early wickets after Karachi Whites skipper Mohammad Sami, the discarded Test speedster, won the toss and opted to bat first.
Barring Afsar Nawaz, who scored 52 with five boundaries, and opener Asad Shafiq (45), it was tough going for the home side. Sami batted patiently to make 31 off 90 balls.
Junaid and off-spinner Kashif Shafi claimed three wickets each.
Lahore Ravi negotiated one over without scoring.
Test leg-spinner Danish Kaneria captured four for 64 as Habib Bank reduced Hyderabad to 192 for nine in their first innings at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad.
Karachi Blues enjoyed a good day despite questionable team selection. Ex-Test opener Shadab Kabir hammered an unbeaten 136 as the Blues closed at 308 for four against Quetta.
Shadab and Ali Asad shared an opening partnership of 146 after Quetta invited the visitors to have first use of the Bugti Stadium pitch in Quetta.
Karachi Blues badly lost to Rawalpindi by 152 runs in the first round game in Karachi with coach Sagheer Abbas, younger brother of Pakistan great and former skipper Zaheer Abbas, opting to keep out several deserving players on the sidelines.
Multan, meanwhile, put themselves in driving seat after bundling out Sialkot for 100 at the Sheikhupura Stadium.
Tariq brothers, Hammad and Usman, then added 116 without being separated as Multan reached stumps at 116-0.
PIA opener Kamran Sajid carried his bat for an unbeaten 64, but his team were bowled out 211 by KRL in the game at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi.
