PML-N hints at boycotting elections

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said it will not accept any election in the country without participation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in it, but said it is too early to talk about the party’s strategy in case the regime does not allow Mr Sharif to contest the polls.

Speaking at a news conference here on Friday, PML-N vice- president Syed Zafar Ali Shah regretted that important decisions regarding Pakistan’s future were being made in Washington and alleged the regime was preparing to rob the nation in the forthcoming general election.

The PML-N leader said the nation was not ready to accept any election without the participation of Mr Sharif.

He, however, said it was too early to talk about the possibility of the boycott of the election by the party, in case the Musharraf regime did not allow Mr Sharif to take part in the polls.

Zafar Ali Shah said the PML-N had never accepted a president in military uniform and would not do so in future. He said the PML-N would never accept the Oct 6 presidential election as Gen Musharraf was not eligible to contest the poll.

The PML-N leader condemned the bomb blasts in the PPP rally in Karachi on October 18 and termed it a proof of the failure of the regime in providing security to the life and property of the people of Pakistan. He said how the rulers, who had failed to maintain law and order situation in the country and control crime rate, could fight war against terror.
