A search for the missing woman

By Our Correspondent

ATTOCK, Oct 26: The inspector general police (IGP) has appointed the district police officer (DPO) Attock as inquiry officer to reinvestigate the case of a married woman, who went missing three years ago.

According to sources, the IGP has directed DPO Attock Tariq Hanif Joyia to trace the whereabouts of the 24-year-old married woman, Noorul Aain.

“There is no clue of her (Ms Aain) since then, which is a source of mental torture for her family members,” the sources said.

The Punjab police are reinvestigating the case on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

When contacted, DPO Joyia said that the aggrieved father Qamar Abbas had filed a petition with the apex court in this regard.

According to the petition, Noorul Aain was married to one Amir Waseem in Rawalpindi. On January 10, 2004, she went to her father’s house at Satellite Town; after receiving a cellphone message from her husband, she went back by a taxi.

Since then she is missing and her family members don’t know if she is alive or dead. Two days after the incident, an FIR was registered at the New Town Police Station but the police investigation proved a futile exercise as they could not find any clue to the incident.

Therefore, the petitioner requested the apex court to reinvestigate the case in an ‘impartial manner’ under the supervision of any honest and efficient police officer.

DPO Joyia said that following the directives, he with the coordination of DSP Investigation Ahmed Javed had started investigations and obtained records from the respective police station in this regard. He said statements of the concerned persons were being recorded besides observing other evidences.

“No doubt,” the DPO said, “it is a mysterious, difficult and challenging case. Hectic efforts are being made to resolve the issue.”
