ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: Religious Affairs Minister Mohammad Ijazul Haq on Friday criticised PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s statement against madressahs, saying that Pakistanis “will not allow her to crush seminaries in the country”.

“She is now announcing to target deeni madaris after her statements about foreign agencies’ access to Dr Qadeer Khan and permission to foreign troops to initiate attacks inside our territory,” the minister told a press conference here.

Ms Bhutto, he alleged, represented the group that started terrorist activities, bomb attacks and hijacking in the country.

He said: “An FIR will be registered against Benazir Bhutto if there is any attack on him, on Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain or Pervaiz Elahi.”

“The remnants of Al Zulfiqar are being encouraged to attack us,” he claimed. “We don’t believe in terrorism and extremism. Gen Zia-ul-Haq and father of Chaudhry Shujaat were assassinated but we did not set up any militant organisation,” he added.—APP
