KARACHI, Oct 26: The special judge of anti-corruption court, Karachi, Syed Gul Munir Shah, on Friday issued bailable warrants for a superintendent of police (SP), Ather Rasheed Butt, for not complying with court’s order to appear in a case as a witness.

According to the prosecution, a former head constable of Napier Police station, Shaukat Ali, during his tenure as moharrir had embezzled case properties, including cash and jewellery.

A case (FIR 90/02) had already been registered at the police station against the accused under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code, read with 5 (2) of Anti-Corruption Act.

SP Ather Rasheed was posted as the DSP Risala at that time and was recorded as a witness in the corruption case.

He had been repeatedly summoned by court to testify in the case, but he reportedly did not comply with the orders on one pretext or the other.

The SP has been ordered to appear in court on Nov 8 at 8.30am to offer an explanation.

Inspector Iqbal Ahmed is also a witness in the case.
