Final ODI to clash with Punjab Games

Published October 26, 2007

MULTAN, Oct 25: Though the South African cricketers are satisfied over the relocation of the fifth One-day International from Karachi to Lahore due to security reasons, the organisers and the law and order agencies in the Punjab capital will be facing an uphill task in ensuring fool-proof security arrangements at the Gaddafi Stadium since the match day (Monday) clashes directly with the Punjab Games which are also being held in the same vicinity from Oct 27-29.

The Gaddafi Stadium is situated in the Nishter Sports Complex which is at stone-throw distance from the National Hockey Stadium and the Punjab Stadium which are hosting the Punjab Games.

No less than 4,000 men and women athletes will be taking part in 15 different disciplines of the three-day games. Moreover, the colourful closing ceremony on Oct 29 (the day of the Pakistan-South African clash) will be a grand-gala event to be held in the Punjab Stadium and is likely to attract a huge crowd.
