QUETTA, Oct 25: National Party leader Kachkol Ali Baloch has rejected the draft code of conduct for general elections and described as sham the government’s claim to hold free and fair polls.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said that opposition parties would not accept the code of conduct which was aimed to deceive the people.
He said with the code the government wanted to restrict political activities of parties opposed to Gen Musharraf.
The NP leader said that Gen Musharraf, who was supported by members of the ruling PML in parliament and provincial assemblies during the so-called presidential election, would not remain impartial and the PML and its allies would use the state machinery with the blessings of the army ruler.
Referring to the district government system, he said that nazims and councillors would also use resources of the state to back pro-government candidates in the polls. He said that the NP and other democratic groups would foil the government’s conspiracy.
