Robbers, thieves strike at 10 places

RAWALPINDI, Oct 25: Robbers and thieves went on the rampage by striking at 10 places in Rawalpindi and looting over Rs1.7 million besides taking away several vehicles on Wednesday.

Aftab Ahmed complained to the Sadiqabad police that he was returning from work when four motorcycle riders intercepted him and snatched Rs24,000 at gunpoint.

Khalid Mehmood told the Saddar Barooni police that three robbers entered his house and snatched Rs32,000 in cash and gold ornaments after holding the inmates at gunpoint.

Malik Nazeer Akram, a resident of Westridge, lost Rs200,000 and gold ornaments after burglars broke into his house in the absence of the family.

Sardar Mohammad Faisal complained to the Wah Cantt police that three robbers entered his house and snatched Rs1.7 million, four cellphones and gold ornaments. The value of the looted jewellery is yet to be estimated.

Saleem Akhtar told the Mandra police that two gunmen intercepted his van (IDS-8064) and took it away besides depriving him of Rs6,000 and other valuables.

Mehtab Ahmed Qureshi complained to the Civil Lines police that his car (HW-394) was taken away from outside his house while Kashif Ali’s motorcycle (RLB-918) was stolen in Saddar. Munir Khan’s car (ITE-497) was stolen from Saddar, Nazir Ahmed Khan’s car (RLG-1854) was lifted from Sadiqbad and Sardar Pervez Akhtar’s bike (RIT-7770) was stolen in Banni police area.

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old girl was killed in a road accident in Westridge while a man was shot dead by his rivals near Faizabad on Thursday, police said.

The girl, identified as Zara, was crossing the Peshawar Road when she came under the wheels of a hit-and-run car.

In the second incident, Mohammad Javaid, a resident of Sialkot, was called to Faizabad by his rivals. As Javaid reached the scene, Zarar Butt and his accomplices allegedly opened fire on him killing him on the spot.

Inspector Khalid Masood of the Sabzi Mandi police said Zarar Butt was caught while fleeing by the ICT police officials, but his six accomplices managed to speed away in their cars. The motive behind the murder was stated to be old enmity.
