LAHORE, Oct 24: Long shot bay mare Dazzy Against All overcame six rivals to win the feature event of the Lahore Gymkhana midweek races which resumed at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The mare took the lead soon after the final turn, defeating her challenger, half-money favourite Gulf Line, by 2 ¾ lengths.
Shah Rani finished third by similar margin while Prince Salman completed the frame, a distance away.
After last-minute withdrawal of Never Fail, seven horses took part in the race.
The joint-favourite, bay filly Armida, conquered the fifth and supporting event of the day in her usual style.
She beat Shah Pari by a big margin of six lengths to register second victory in a row.
Earlier, even-money favourite gelding High Quality, ridden forcefully by M. Hanif, beat Cheeta Aya by about two lengths in a hard fought finish.
Chander Mukhi and Great Rhythm completed the frame.
Malang Aya and God’s Gift were withdrawn from this third race at the last moment, leaving 12 runners in the contest.
Favourite gelding Shikari found dirt track a good hunting ground for his owner to win the fourth race of the card.
She beat Murad King, Gold Round and Tallal The Great in the same order.
Long shot chestnut colt Al Dar showed tremendous speed to win the second race. Ridden by jockey Javed Iqbal, Al Dar ran ahead of the field from start to finish, causing the biggest upset of the day.
He beat Sajju The Great, the mount of jockey Aamir Pervaiz by one-and-a-half lengths.
Odds-on favourite dark-bay colt Rose finished third under erratic handling of riding boy M. Atif, who started the race at the same position and made it sure to maintain it till the end.
Dark-bay Sona took a fine start, living up to the expectations of connections and winning the opener by a wide margin of a distance.
Pukkar, Mosaic and Sohna Murad completed the frame in the same order.
Despite his poor riding on Rose in the second race, M. Atif made amends to share day’s honours with trainer Chaudhry Khurram Hussain, registering a double each.
Atif rode home Sona and Dazzy Against All in the first and last race of the day. Trainer Khurram sent out Al Dar and High Quality, owned by Haroon Ali, in the second and third race.
Three favourites obliged punters in a card of six event, ran over 1000 metres each. They were Sona, High Quality and Armida in the 1st, 3rd and 5th races.
Leading jockey Shahid Rehman did not ride on Wednesday. It was learnt he had fallen from a horse during morning exercises on Tuesday and fractured his left wrist and the horse his leg.
Shahid has been advised rest by doctor for six weeks.
