Benazir’s agenda amnesty, not democracy, says Pervaiz

By Our Correspondent

KASUR, Oct 24: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has alleged that PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and her spouse are a corrupt couple, and she has come to Pakistan only to seek forgiveness and withdrawal of cases.

The chief minister said this while addressing a public meeting at Changa Manga on Wednesday.

Pervaiz Elahi said on the one hand Amin Fahim was holding dialogues with Shujaat Husain over the National Reconciliation Ordinance, while on the other Benazir Bhutto was writing letters to the government that she feared for her safety from the Punjab chief minister.

He said the agenda given to the government by the PPP chairperson contained nothing, but an appeal for forgiveness and withdrawal of cases against her and her husband rather than to her much-voiced sloganeering about democracy.

The chief minister alleged that Ms Bhutto was a seasonal politician who left the country with all the plundered wealth and enjoyed holidays abroad when she was out of power.

He said her return to the country had only created a wave of uneasiness in the business community, adding that the people should fail such corrupt people through the power of vote.

The PML, he claimed, would make a clean sweep in Punjab in the upcoming general elections on the basis of massive development works carried out during his tenure so far.

Pervaiz Elahi also inaugurated the gas supply to Changa Manga and its 20 adjoining villages which would be completed with an expenditure of Rs50 million.

Later, he laid the foundation stone of an overhead bridge that would cost Rs500 million.

The chief minister said more than 100 shops would be built on both sides of the bridge which would be allotted to the affected people.

He also laid the foundation stone of a seven-kilometer-long dual road in Phoolnagar that would be constructed with a sum of Rs250 million.

Pervaiz Elahi announced donating a piece of land for the press club in Changa Manga. He said an amount of Rs340 million would be utilised for the provision of clean drinking water in Chunian, Pattoki and Khudian.

Federal Housing and Works Minister Sardar Asif Nakai, Development and Housing Minister Sardar Hasan Akhtar Mokal, parliamentary secretary Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, MNA Sardar Tufail, MPA Sheikh Allauddin, former MPA Haji Ghulam Sabir Ansari, former district nazim Rana Imtiaz and Chunian tehsil nazim Rana Ibad were also present on the occasion.
