Governor seeks role of parties for peace

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 24: NWFP Governor Let-Gen (retd) Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai has urged political parties to play their due role for restoring peace in the province.

At the oath-taking ceremony of four caretaker ministers on Wednesday, the governor told media personnel that a tribe inhibiting the Mir Ali sub-district had formed a force of volunteers to flush out foreign militants from their area.

He said tribesmen in the North Waziristan have realised that the presence of foreign militants in their areas has created problems for them.

The governor said the Dawar tribe had set a deadline for the foreign militants to leave their area. People had also been asked not to provide sanctuary to the militants, he added.

“I think this is a positive development and I hope that matters would be resolved amicably”, he remarked.

Mr Aurakzai said that it was imperative for the people to come out openly against militancy.

He called upon the people in the tribal as well as the settled districts of Swat, Tank and other places to work together for restoring peace in the province.
