By A Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 24: The Additional District and Sessions Judge-II (Central), Nelofer Shahnawaz Azmi, on Wednesday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of two policemen, one of them an investigation officer of the Sharifabad police station, for not responding to the court’s notices for their appearance in the court in connection with a case since 2003.

The case pertained to the snatching of a motorcycle on Aug 30, 2003.

According to the prosecution, accused Abdullah Shah son of Haji Din and his two accomplices had snatched a motorcycle bearing registration number KAX 5063 from Asif Ali Khan at Saima Tower in Buffer Zone, falling in the limits of Sharifabad police station.

A security guard of the Saima Tower, Mohammad Chaman, had fired at the accused and Abdullah Shah was arrested. However, his two accomplices got away with the motorcycle.

The police had registered a case (FIR No 298/03) against the accused under Section 397/34 but the investigation officer and another policeman did not appear in court for giving a testimony. The investigation officer, ASI Mohammad Bux Bhatti, belongs to the Anti-Car Lifting Unit. The other policeman is ASI Abdul Maalik.

On Wednesday, the court directed the home department, city police chief and the SSP concerned to ensure the appearance of the two policemen in court on Nov 2.

The court also issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of security guard Mohammad Chaman, Faraz Ali Ansari son of Mumtaz Ali Ansari, Asif Ali Khan son of Mohammad Shaukat Ali Khan and ordered their production in court on the next date of hearing.
