KARACHI, Oct 23: Four-year-old chestnut filly Abhi Abhi added a feather to her cap when she claimed The Eid Milan Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Tuesday.

She edged past colt Reyan King by two-and-a-half lengths to win hands down and made it two on trot. Her victory was applauded by a sizeable crowd which turned up at the venue after three weeks.

She was firm favourite in the field after her triumph in the Defence Day Cup last month.

Four-year-old bay colt Captain Colt who was also backed by the connection finished five lengths behind to secure third place while colt Truf Shot completed the frame among five runners after The Arab was withdrawn.

The filly from the stables of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara was piloted home by former champion rider Mohammad Essa and saddled by Allah Judrio.

Two more favourite fillies – Taiz Per and Sweetie Pie – also presented owner Pir Pagara with winners in the seventh and ninth races which helped him complete a treble.

Essa stormed Taiz Per to a convincing six lengths victory over mare Closing Argument in the top division of class VII while Sweetie Pie registered four-and-a-half lengths victory over colt With Interest with Zaki Zakir astride.

Making his appearance after a long layoff, favourite three-year-old bay colt Chosen One also returned with flying colours beating colt Vice Admiral by five-and-a-half lengths to make it two in a row. She was smartly ridden home by Ghulam Shabbir II.

Apart from Essa (Abhi Abhi, Taiz Per), jockeys Shabbir and Nasir also shared days honours with a brace of winners.

Earlier, Shabbir pulled off an upset when he powered filly Rolex to two lengths victory over favourite colt Quince in the fifth race.

Haji Khuda Bux Rajar’s filly Moomal overcame colt Discreet Cat by four-and-a-half lengths while colt Royal King outpaced Moon Raker in back-to-back races with Nasir aboard.

Jaguar repeated his winning feat registering a facile six-and-a-half lengths victory to land the opener while The Choice Of The Day was impressive in his eight lengths victory over Daruwala in the second.

As for trainers, Allah Judrio sent home three winners followed by Mushtaq Ali Khan two in a card of nine races.

The next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Sunday.
