KARACHI, Oct 23: The additional district and sessions judge, central, Nelofer Shahnawaz Azimi, re-issued on Tuesday non-bailable arrest warrants for six police officials who are not appearing in the court despite repeated reminders in death case of two college girls.
According to the prosecution, Nida Afzaal and Ravia Beenish, the two intermediate students of the APWA College, Karimabad, were killed and many others injured on Feb 19, 2002 when the driver of route 5-C bus (JA 5983) while racing with another bus lost control.
The driver, Mohammad Munawwar, and the bus owner, Mohammad Ibrahim, were arrested. Sharifabad police registered a case (FIR No 054/2002) against them under sections 320, 322 and 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code. They were later released on bail.
For the past five years, the police officials have not been appearing in court to testify as prosecution witnesses in the case. As they failed to appear as prosecution witnesses in the case on Tuesday, the court issued non-bailable warrants for Inspector Suhail Ahmed, Assistant Sub-Inspector Irfan, ASI Ghulam Hussain, Sub-Inspector Zafar Iqbal, Inspector Mohammad Jamil (motor vehicle inspection wing) and Constable Zahoor (Traffic Section).
The court also summoned Madeeha, Shahida and Sahar Afshan, the students who were injured in the accident.
Besides, the court asked Sindh Home Department officials, Capital City Police Officer, Deputy Inspector General and Senior Superintendents of Police concerned to ensure appearance of the police officials on Nov 13 for recording their depositions as prosecution witnesses in the case.
A court source, meanwhile, said some other people were also avoiding the court hearings due to non-appearance of the police officials concerned.
Defiant MLOs
The same court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for two medico-legal officers of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for not appearing in a murder case for the last six years.
According to the prosecution, Mohammad Younus, son of Mohammad Darvesh, had stabbed 14-year-old Mohammad Ghiyas, son of Mohammad Saleem, in Liaquatabad after exchange of hot words with him in Super Market police limits on Aug 20, 2001.
The injured boy could not survive though he was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The post-mortem examination of the body was conducted by Dr Sarfaraz Gul and Dr Zafar Shah Khan. However, the medico-legal officers did not appear in the court to testify.
The accused was booked under Section-302 of the Pakistan Penal Code in the case (FIR No 84/01) at Super Market police station.
The court fixed Oct 27 as the next date of the hearing and directed the police officials concerned to arrest and produce the MLOs in the court.
