PESHAWAR, Oct 22: Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmad and chief of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Maulana Fazlur Rehman held their first meeting in recent weeks here on Monday in what appeared to be a move to remove differences said to have cropped up between them.

An office-bearer of the JUI-F told Dawn that Maulana Fazl visited Qazi Hussain’s residence and inquired about his health. He said that during the meeting, both leaders discussed the evolving political situation.

But they avoided media appearances and declined to give details of the meeting.

Later, JI’s general secretary Liaquat Baloch told journalists that the alliance’s Supreme Council would be convened “very soon” and it would discuss all issues, including differences between the JI and JUI-F.

He said the council’s meeting had been delayed because of Qazi Hussain Ahmad’s illness. Replying to a question, Mr Baloch said that MMA would remain intact and differences would be resolved through talks.
