KARACHI: Oct 18 twin blasts case FIR filed in court

KARACHI, Oct 22: The Bahadurabad police on Monday submitted FIR No 183/07 to the judicial magistrate-VII, East, Inam Ali Kalhoro. The FIR was registered on Oct 19 after the two bomb blasts in the welcome procession of Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto at Karsaz on Sharea Faisal.

The FIR, registered by Station House Officer Syed Abid Hussein Shah under Sections 302, 320, 224, 427/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, 3/4 (Explosive Act), and 7 Anti-Terrorism Act, revealed that following the bomb blasts three to four persons were seen running from the blast site.

According to the FIR, the suspects could be identified in an identification parade. According to the FIR, 80 people were killed and 175 others injured in the blasts.The police stated that the Corolla car found at the site did not have any official registration number, but it bore AFR 4248.

Inquiry Officer Malik Raees Ahmed, when contacted by Dawn, avoided giving details of the investigation.

He also avoided giving fresh figures of the casualties.

Arrest warrants

The judicial magistrate-X, South, Asif Ahmed, on Monday issued warrants for the arrest of Sindh Pakistan People’s Party President Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Nisar Khuhro and others for not appearing in court in a case against them.

According to the prosecution, the case (FIR 358/04) was registered at the Preedy police station under Sections 147,148,149, 353,427/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, for damaging many vehicles during a protest demonstration on June 18, 2004.

The court issued the arrest warrants for the accused through the deputy-inspector general of police and asked him to ensure their presence on Oct 31.

According to the case, PPP leaders Rashid Rabbani, Sassi Palejo, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Muzaffar Ali Shujra, Najmi Alam, Raheel Iqbal, Dr Mehreen Bhutto, Sharfunnisa Laghari and Marvi Mazhar had taken out a procession to protest against the killing of PPP leader Munawwar Suharwardi and allegedly damaged a number of vehicles.

The police had arrested some other activists of the party, including Mohammad Ashraf, Mohammad Ayub, Dilawar and Ghulam Farid, but they had been granted bail. They were later on acquitted in the case.
