HYDERABAD: Normalcyreturns to Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, Oct 22: Hyderabad city has returned to normalcy after a three-day shutter down strike was observed here to mourn the deaths of at least 140 people in twin blasts at the welcome rally of Pakistan People’s Party leader Benazir Bhutto.

On Monday shops and business centres were reopened and vehicles plied as usual though grief still prevailed in the areas dominated by PPP supporters.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Abadgar Board has condemned the terrorist attack and said that Islam, democracy and even civilized society did not allow such attacks.

SAB senior vice-president Anwar Khan Mahar, vice-president Gada Hussain Mahesar and others, in a statement, condemned the Karachi carnage and expressed sympathy with bereaved families.

They demanded arrest of the culprits and punishment to them and expressed apprehension that the country seemed to be heading towards 1971-like conditions due to violation of constitution and greed of power.

Yaseen Baloch, a local leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League, said that the Oct 12 carnage was an act of enemies of humanity and democracy. In a statement, he said that people like those behind the carnage did not want the country to return to democracy. He said that the slain workers of the PPP had gathered to welcome their leader which was right of every worker and added that he shared grief and sorrow of those people whose dear and near ones had been killed or injured in the twin blasts.

The PML leader appealed to the president and prime minister to order an impartial investigation in the incident and ensure that the culprits were brought to book.—PPI
