KARACHI, Oct 21: The Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) on Sunday expressed its grief and sorrow on the deaths of several children in the suicide bombing on the homecoming parade of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto on Oct 18. Akhtar Hussain Baloch, Regional Manager of SPARC Sindh, in a press statement condemned the attacks and said the cowardly act showed the growing level of cruelty and intolerance in society. “SPARC believes that such acts will not only harm the social fabric of society but will also dent the (sustained) efforts of civil society for the promotion and protection of human rights.”
He said the government needed to review its security measures and improve the law-and-order situation in the country to ensure the basic rights of citizens were not suppressed. He also said that children should not be brought to political rallies in the aftermath of recurrent blasts in different parts of the country.
