PPP against local govt system, says Pervaiz

LAHORE, Oct 19: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is against the local body system and wants dissolution of district governments. Addressing a public meeting at Mandi Bahauddin here on Friday, the chief minister said that no one would be allowed to work against the solidarity of the nation.

According to a handout, Mr Elahi said the PML was the founder party of Pakistan and it would give a tough fight in every constituency to the PPP which was responsible for the disintegration of the country.

The president could hold dialogue with any political party for reconciliation on national issues, he said.

Mr Elahi claimed that more development work had been completed during the last five years compared to the collective eras of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif.

He said the PML-N was no more in `existence’ and its members would soon join the ruling PML who would be given the same status as was enjoyed by the old leaguers.

Pakistan, he said, was on the verge of economic disaster and was being declared as a failed state when President Pervez Musharraf took over. “It is only due to effective policies of the president that the national economy has strengthened and image of the country has improved globally”, he said.

The chief minister said that Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif had only looted national resources.

Pervaiz Elahi also laid the foundation stone of 106km long road from Phalia to Sial Morr which would cost Rs1.7 billion.

He also announced construction of 15km long Khatyala Sheikhaan to Phalia Road, setting up of a trauma centre and a burn centre in Mandi Bahauddin at a cost of Rs750 million and upgradation of Government High School, Miyana Gondal, to higher secondary school.

Strategy, he said, had been evolved to upgrade the DHQ Hospital with a sum of Rs1 billion. He said that Rs5 billion funds had been provided for the uplift of Mandi Bahauddin during the last five years.

He also announced immediate provision of funds for the maternity hospital in Phalia. He also announced a sum of Rs10 million and Rs5 million for district and tehsil governments, respectively.

Mandi District Nazim Riaz Asghar Chaudhry, MNA Chaudhry Muhammad Ijaz, PML leaders Chaudhry Zafarullah Tarar, Muhammad Zulqarnain Sahi, Muhammad Nawaz Bosal, Phalia Tehsil Nazim Shakil Gulzar, Mandi Tehsil Nazim Haji Imtiaz Ahmad, Malakwal Tehsil Nazim Ghulam Hussain Bosal and MPA Muhammad Arif Gondal were also present.
