LANDI KOTAL, Oct 18: NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai has said the government is considering establishing a university for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

He was speaking at a foundation-stone laying ceremony of the Levies Training Centre at Shah Kas in Jamrud sub-division of the Khyber Agency on Thursday.

The centre will have various infrastructures to facilitate law-enforcement agencies’ training for Fata.

Senator Hamidullah Jan Afridi, MNA Maulana Khalil-ur-Rehman, additional chief secretary Fata Javed Iqbal, secretary law and order Fata Arbab Mohammad Arif and political agent Syed Ameeruddin Shah attended the ceremony.

The project is part of the Fata complex in Shah Kas covering an area of over 3,000 kanals. Besides the training centre, it will have offices of the Political Administration, Fata Medical College, University of Engineering and Technology’s satellite complex, OPF Girls College and IMS campus for Fata.

The governor was given a briefing on the Levies Training Centre project by the executive engineer of W&S Fata. The project will be built at an estimated cost of Rs512.5 million.

The governor proposed some changes in the master plan and asked the authorities concerned to leave sufficient space for future requirements and expansion.

He said the government had a positive and constructive vision for Fata and wanted the tribal areas fully developed and prosperous.

He mentioned the Fata Sustainable Development Plan which had been initiated at a cost of Rs124 billion and would be completed in eight years.

The federal government, Mr Aurakzai said, would provide Rs60 billion for the Fata Sustainable Development Plan while the remaining amount would be provided by donor countries and international organisations.

He said that tribesmen would be involved in the planning and implementation process.
