KARACHI: Council session controversy

Published October 19, 2007

KARACHI, Oct 18: Naib Nazim of the Lyari Town Abdullah Rahim Baloch has criticised the presiding officer, Yasin Baloch, for chairing the Friday session of the town council, saying that the proceedings held after the house was adjourned were illegal and any resolution passed after the adjournment was non-binding.

The session was requisitioned by Mr Baloch himself to discuss the utilisation of funds amounting to Rs7.5 million granted to the town in two instalments.

The naib nazim asked the department concerned to explain the expenditure but it could not submit the required report.

The naib nazim declined to approve the expenditure and called for the adjournment of the session till the submission of the report. However, the presiding officer continued the session.

In a statement issued later, the naib nazim said he would approach the Sindh Local Government Commission against theillegal proceedings.—Staff Reporter
