KARACHI: Warrants for cops

KARACHI, Oct 18: The additional district and sessions judge-II (Central), Nelofer Shahnawaz Azimi, on Thursday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of four police officials who have not been appearing in court for several years to testify in a murder case.

According to the prosecution, SI Khurshid Khan, SI Sadaqat Ali, ASI Saleem Cheema and head-constable Fayaz Shah have been avoiding compliance of the court orders to record their statements as prosecution witnesses in the case pertaining to the murder of Azad Hussain, who was shot dead in limits of New Karachi police station on Feb 10, 2002.

The judge has issued directives to the police authorities to stop disbursement of salaries to the policemen, arrest them and ensure their production in court on Nov 5, 2007, the next date of hearing.—A Reporter
