BAHAWALPUR, Oct 16: The stage is set to unfurl a 10-kilometre long banner in connection with the International Day of Eradication of Poverty being observed in more than 100 countries on Wednesday.
“Bas Bauhat Ho Chuka” is the organisation which is taking the initiative of raising awareness among the public about the menace of poverty.
The banner, which is claimed to be the longest ever made by any organisation, has 25 pieces each of which will be 400-metre long.
The local organisers claimed that all the 25 pieces had been obtained to unfurl them as a single largest banner.
According to the organisers, the banner would be unfurled on the Circular Road, linking the historical Baghdadul Jadid and Bahawalpur railway stations.
The Baghdadul Jadid railway station is located on Samasatta-Bahawalnagar railway section which was once considered as one of the most important railway sections.
While the Bahawalpur railway station exists on the main Lahore-Karachi railway line.
The organisers hoped that a large number of people would turn up at various parts of the road linking the two railway stations to mark the occasion and hold the banner in their hands.
Unfurling of the banner would begin simultaneously from both ends of the railway stations and it would be joined at Chowk Fowara where a ceremony would be held.
Arrangements have also been made to mark the occasion with festivities, including cultural programme — Cholistani Jhoomar, band display and songs by Naseer Mastana, Jameel Parwana, Sabir and Hasina Khanum. Besides, various musical tones depicting the theme of poverty have also been prepared to be presented en route.
