28 killed in road accidents

SAHIWAL, Oct 16: At least 28 people were killed and several others injured in road accidents in various parts of Punjab during Eid holidays.

Nine people, including four of a family, were killed and 24 others injured in separate road accidents in Sahiwal on Eid day (Sunday).

A speeding car ran over five members of a family standing beside Divisional Public School Road near Bilal Mosque. Akram Rahman, his daughters — Sehar (6) and Neesha (3) — and nephew Royat Ali were killed and Hasnain (5) was injured when the car hit them. The family was waiting for a bus.

Police arrested driver Moeen, a second-year student.

In another incident on Sahiwal-Arifwala Road, an unregistered car overturned after one of its tyres burst, killing two people and injuring two others.

Those killed were identified as Maqsood and his brother, Ahmad, and injured as Dr Ali Ahmad and Munir.

In the third incident on GT Road near Chak 87.9, 70-year-old Ahmad Ali was killed when a motorcyclist hit him.

Separately, Tauheed and Haider, who had been hospitalised after suffering injuries in road accidents, also died on Sunday.

Several people were injured in motorcycle-related accidents in the district and 14 of them were reported to be critical.

In Faisalabad, three people were killed and 50 others injured when two buses collided near Natho Chak on Monday.

One of the buses was going from Faisalabad to Aminpur Bungalow and the other was coming to Faisalabad, and they collided on Aminpur Road.

Bodies of two male victims could not be identified, while the third one was identified as Bashiran of Chak 30.

Separately, motorcyclists Naveed and Zaheer were killed in two incidents in Tarkhani and Samundari.

In Gujrat, four people, including a couple, were killed and five others injured in a road accident at Saghar Mor near Barrila Sharif on Sunday.

A truck hit a motorbike at Saghar Mor and then overturned. As a result, motorcyclist Amjad and his wife, Shahana, of Sialkot’s Miani Colony and truck driver Mukhtar and his helper, Qamar Ghafoor, died at the scene.

Moreover, Saqib Ali, Shams Nawaz, Shahzad, Zaigham and Muhammad Sharif of Badhan village, who were waiting for a bus, were hit by the truck and injured critically.

In Layyah, four people were killed and 15 injured when a passenger van collided with a truck on Layyah-Karore Road on Monday evening.

The accident occurred near Adda Baghwala when a Layyah-bound van collided with a Bhakhar-bound truck.

Those killed were identified as van driver Mulazam Husain of Karore’s Warrah Sehran locality, Ghulam Sarwar of Tiba Dastiyan locality, Mukhtar Gull of Chowk Azam locality and Khursheed of Layyah city.

In Sheikhupura, a youth was killed while his two friends were injured in an accident on Lahore Road on Sunday evening.

Reports said that Arif, Tariq Sardar Gujjar and Waheed Gujjar were going to Lahore by car. Near the Khanpur canal, the speeding car hit the bridge. As a result, Arif died on the spot while his friends sustained injuries. They were admitted to a local hospital.

Factory Area police are looking into the matter.

Five people were killed in road accidents in Gujranwala on Sunday.

Hasan of Kangniwala was taking his sister Nighat to his relatives on a motorcycle on Eid day when a speeding van hit them and ran over them near Rawalpindi bypass. Both of them died at the scene.

Separately, Rabia of Lahore was killed and her husband Nafees injured seriously when their car rammed into a roadside tree near Nawab Chowk. They were on their way to Lahore from Rawalpindi.

Five-year-old Wasim of Kotli Pir Ahmad Shah was crushed to death by a speeding van when he was crossing a road.

Ehsan Cheema of Ghakkar town lost his life when his bike skidded on GT Road.
