SAHIWAL, Oct 16: Two persons were killed and another five injured, two of them serious, when two rival groups traded fire in Chak 54/4-R on Eid day.
Reports said Ashraf and Ali Sher had an old enmity over litigation. On Sunday, six armed men, said to be hired by the Ali Sher group, opened fire on Ashraf and his family members when they were returning home after offering Eid prayers.
As a result Ashraf’s nephew Tariq died on the spot while Ali Nawaz, Jaafar, Ashraf and his sons Zafar Iqbal and Rustam sustained injuries.
However, Ashraf’s injured sons managed to bring out weapons from their house and returned the fire, killing one of the attackers who was later identified as Ansar Ali.
Noorshah police later arrested accused Ali Sher, Sadi Ahmed and Pehlwan while injured Ali Nawaz and Jaafar, whose condition was said to be critical at the DHQ Hospital, were also under police custody.
A case has been registered against the accused under sections 324, 302, 148 & 149 PPC.
SHOT DEAD: Four dacoits on Monday night shot dead the watchman of a lourmills on resistance on Chichawatni Road.
Reports said the armed bandits fired at Mukhtar Ali when he challenged them after he spotted them breaking the locks of the cash room. The watchman died on the spot.
Police have registered a case and arrested one suspect, Mazhar Iqbal.
