RAWALPINDI: Oct 16: The passport cell of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested on Tuesday a former police constable and a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) employee on charges of human trafficking, officials said.

The arrest of CAA sanitary worker Mohammad Javaid and ex- constable Abid Ali Khan came after the interrogation of two illegal Pakistani immigrants Fraz Ahmed and Saleem Khan, who were recently deported from Spain.

FIA inspector Kausar Shah, who was grilling the two deportees, revealed that Abid Ali received Rs800,000 from Saleem Khan and $1,000 from Fraz Ahmed, who was to pay $2,000 more on reaching Cyprus.

Abid Ali, who was acting as a travel agent, arranged student visas for the two in connivance with Mohammad Javaid, who was posted at Islamabad International Airport.

The FIA official said the accused also arranged fake university certificates for the illegal immigrants, who were in fact were illiterate.

Saleem Khan was to be pushed into Greece by the human trafficker. First he had to reach Cyprus where he was to be received by a sub-agent, who had to send him to Greece, the inspector said.

Replying to a question, he revealed that whoever, either from the FIA or any other department, was found involved in human trafficking would be treated according to the law. He said Abid Ali Khan, who belonged to Nowshera, and his accomplice Mohammad Javaid were being interrogated by the FIA team.

Meanwhile, a batch of 61 illegal Pakistani immigrants deported by Turkish authorities arrived at Islamabad International Airport on Tuesday, raising the number of deportees to more than 1,500 since the emergence of human trafficking crisis in May 2007.
