SANGHAR, Oct 16: Fifteen PPP activists were injured when some unknown persons opened fire at the party’s rally near Shahdadpur on Monday. The PPP activists had taken out the rally from village Tayyab Thaheem, which was led by Abdul Salam Thaheem and Faisal Dero.
Reports said that as the motorcade was heading to Shahpur Chakar the armed men, hiding in village Maroof Dahiri, opened fire on the participants of the rally. As a result of indiscriminate firing 15 people, including Paris Dero, son of former senator Fida Dero, Luqman Rajput, Sohbat Thaheem, Anwar Thaheem, Nabi Bux Brohi, Mukhtiar Arain, Akhtar Dahiri, and Ali Nawaz Dahiri were injured.
The attackers also smashed windscreens of over two dozen vehicles and forcibly dispersed the rally. Paris Dero was rushed to Karachi, while Luqman Rajput and Sohbat Thaheem were taken to Hyderabad for treatment.
To protest against the incident shops and businesses in towns of Shahdadpur, Tando Adam, Shahpur Chakar, Sarhari, Lundo, and Maqsood Rind remained closed on Tuesday. The agitators blocked roads for seven hours.
Hundreds of activists led by the PPP leader Abdul Salam Thaheem surrounded the Shahdadpur police station when it refused to register an FIR. However, the police registered a case against Mahi Khan Wassan, the sitting MPA of PML-F, taluka nazim Shahdadpur and ten others.
District nazim Haji Khuda Bux Rajar told reporters that no one would be allowed to take law in his hands and whosoever violates the law would be booked.
He claimed that according to his information the PPP activists first attacked their rivals. However, he said the law and order situation in the district was under control.
