KARACHI, Oct 16: Pakistan People’s Party Sindh chapter President Syed Qaim Ali Shah has asked the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, to take action against Chief Minster Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim for his orders to remove PPP banners and flags hoisted to welcome party chairperson Benazir Bhutto to Karachi upon here expected arrival here on Oct 18.
In a letter addressed to the CJ, Mr Shah informed him about the party’s preparations for welcoming Ms Bhutto and claimed that after hearing the news of her arrival, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, “who is hostile towards the PPP and its chairperson,” became upset and issued false, derogatory and defamatory remarks against her with mala fide intentions to cause harm to her politically before her party workers and the general public.
He alleged that the Sindh chief minister ordered the removal of all banners, posters, flags and hoardings put up by the PPP to welcome Ms Bhutto, all over Karachi.
He accused the chief minister of creating a law and order situation by his “illegal, mala fide and unconstitutional acts,” for which he is directly responsible. In this context he has cited several incidents, which he claimed were part of a coordinated campaign to harass and intimidate PPP workers.
