KARACHI: Quaid-i-Millat’s death anniversary observed
KARACHI, Oct 16: The Quaid-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial Committee has reiterated its demand for naming Islamabad airport after Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, the first prime minister of Pakistan who was assassinated in Rawalpindi in 1951.
In a resolution adopted here on Tuesday at a meeting held to observe the 56th death anniversary of Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, the committee said that naming the Islamabad airport after him would be a living tribute to his unprecedented sacrifice for the cause of Pakistan.
The meeting further observed that there were numerous examples and traditions set by various countries all over the world where airports were named after such personalities, and cited John F Kennedy in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, the committee’s general-secretary, Mehfooz-un-Nabi Khan stressed the need for a broad-based national reconciliation at a time when Pakistan was passing through a crucial phase of its history.
Earlier, members of the committee laid floral wreaths on the grave of Liaquat Ali Khan.
Meanwhile, a large number of people visited the mazar of Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, a trusted lieutenant of the Quaid-i-Azam who played an active role in the Pakistan Movement. A Quran Khwani was held at the mazar and fateha was offered by visitors who also laid floral wreaths on his grave.
Many organisations organised different programmes to mark the occasion.
Senior Muslim League Leader and President of the Allama Iqbal Forum Azad Bin Haider on Tuesday paid homage to the first prime minister of Pakistan.
At a meeting of the workers and activists of the PML, Karachi Division, he said the biggest achievement of the late leader was the passage of the ‘Objective Resolution’.
Bostan Ali Hoti said that Liaquat Ali Khan, under the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam, had organised the Muslim League in a manner that impressed Congress leaders.—Agencies
