DHAKA: Seven people died and an eighth was missing on Tuesday after monsoon storms swept through southern Bangladesh, demolishing shanty homes and leaving many injured, officials said.

Falling trees killed two people while another person and a baby died when their houses collapsed, officials said.

Three more people died in a landslide during heavy rain.

Fishermen were searching for a missing man whose boat was caught in a storm on the Bay of Bengal, said Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the trawler owners’ association in southern Barisal district. Ferry services were suspended on many routes during the storms, according to the official BSS news agency.—AFP
