QUETTA, Oct 13: Six soldiers of the Afghan National Army were killed and seven others, five of them civilians, were injured on Saturday in a suicide attack in Spin Boldak, an Afghan town on the border with Pakistan.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf claimed responsibility for the attack.
He said that at least 10 Afghan army personnel, including an important commander, were killed in the attack.
According to Afghan police sources, the bomber rammed a motorcycle into an army convoy at the main thoroughfare in Spin Boldak when it was passing through the area.
“Six Afghan army personnel were killed in the attack,” Spin Boldak police chief Bismillah Khan told Dawn.
He said that Afghan army contingent was on a routine patrol on the Chaman-Kandahar highway when the incident took place.
Denying the killing of any commander, Bismillah Khan said that only six soldiers were killed in the attack.
Eyewitnesses said the bodies of Afghan soldiers were scattered over a large area while limbs of the bomber were found 500 metres away.
Soon after the attack Afghan security forces cordoned off the area and removed the bodies and the injured to hospital.
