HYDERABAD, Oct 12: The University of Sindh and the Livestock and Fisheries Department on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding for establishing of a freshwater prawn hatchery and disease diagnostic centre at the university campus in Jamshoro.
University Registrar Mohammad Saleh Rajar and Director General of Livestock and Fisheries Department Ghulam Mohammad Mahar signed the MoU.
Under the agreement the university and the department would collaborate in research and trainings and share scientific facilities to provide opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students and research scholars, who have been enrolled for M.Phil and PhD in the university.
The faculty members of the Department of Freshwater Biology and Fisheries shall be focal department for the purpose under the MoU and shall take BS, MS and PhD degree programmes in applied fisheries, aquaculture and subsequently by mutual consultations, the programmes shall be extended to BS, MS, M.Phil and PhD degrees.
Under the MoU, the facilities for research including library, reference literature and research findings in published form of both the organisations shall be made available to the students.
The University of Sindh has allocated an area of 18 acres for the purpose and the Directorate of the Fisheries Sindh Inland will be responsible for to carry out all construction, structure and infrastructure of the building.
The Chairman Department of Freshwater Biology and Fisheries University of Sindh Professor (Dr) S.M. Leghari, Director Estate of the University Mohammad Usman Mangi were also present on the occasion.—APP
