PESHAWAR, Oct 11: Eid will be celebrated on Friday in some villages of Mardan district in the NWFP.

However, the main ulema committee would meet at the Qasim Ali Khan Mosque on Friday to decide when to celebrate the festival.

People in Mardan’s Rustam village said local ulema had announced that the moon had been sighted and Friday would be the first of Shawwal.

They said that people in the nearby Garyala village had sighted the Shawwal moon on Thursday evening, which was reported to prayer leaders of some villages and hamlets, who announced that Eid would be celebrated on Friday.

However, Taraveeh was offered in most of the mosques in the NWFP and Fata.
