LAHORE, Oct 11: Pace bowler Mohammad Asif is likely to miss some matches of five One-day International series against South Africa, after having being advised one week rest due to nagging pain from an elbow injury, which recurred on the third day of the ongoing Test between Pakistan and South Africa on Wednesday.
The MRI test was conducted on his elbow on Thursday morning, the results of which confirmed the advice for rest.
Manager Talat Ali Malik, told reporters that the problem was not serious as hopefully Asif would be available for the ODIs series, starting from Oct 18.
However, sources told Dawn that to avoid any aggravation to the injury in case of playing after one-week rest, Asif could miss first two ODIs to be played in Lahore. A complete rest would enable Asif to recover from the problem fully to be available for the next tour of India in November, sources said.
Asif, who had to bowl 34 overs in the first innings of South Africa could only sent down four in the second, before leaving the ground in pain.
