HYDERABAD, Oct 11: A caravan of 45 PPP activists from Chhachhro district Tharparkar who has been on a long march since October 5 reached here on Thursday.
The participants who are on their way to Karachi to receive their leader Benazir Bhutto on Oct 18 will cover a distance of 350 kilometres on foot.
They are led by the party president of Chhachhro taluka, Comrade Ghulam Hussain, general secretary Lal Mohammad Dahoot, vice-president Jalaluddin Bajeer and other leaders.
They were received outside the Hyderabad press club by the district president of the party Tharparkar, Dr Mahesh Malani, Amanullah Siyal, Aftab Khanzada, Pasha Kazi and other leaders.
They also staged a demonstration outside the press club and then left for Karachi.
PEOPLES BUREAU: The vice-president People’s Labour Bureau (PLB) Sindh, Lal Bux Kalhoro, has said that PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto will never accept Gen Pervez Musharraf in uniform as the president of Pakistan.
He was speaking at a PLB workers convention at Tando Mohammad Khan on Thursday.
He said the poor people throughout the country were rejoicing on the announcement by Ms Bhutto that she will be returning on Oct 18.
He said the restoration of democracy and the return of the army to barracks was a mission of the PPP.
Mr Lal warned the government that if anyone tried to create hurdles in the return of Ms Bhutto, the party activists would raise a strong resistance.
One behalf of the bureau, he announced that 50 buses will be hired in each district for transportation of the workers to Karachi to welcome the party chairperson.
The local office-bearers of the bureau Syed Mumtaz Shah, Moula Bux Jiskani, Mushtaq Palijo and others also spoke on the occasion.
Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds: The PPP district Mirpurkhas chapter took out a rally here on Thursday from village Makhan Samoon for preparations to welcome Benazir Bhutto in Karachi.
Participators in dozens of cars, pick-ups, mini trucks, rickshaws and motor cycles were led by district president Haji Noor Hassan Chandio and MPA Syed Irfan Ali Shah. They visited Mirwah Gorchani, Digri and different villages.
The participants were raising slogan in favour of Ms Bhutto. The people at different places welcomed the rally and showered flower petals on them. The rally terminated at the village Makhan Samoon.
Besides, a public meeting was also held in village Kot Mirs Landhi, taluka Kot Ghulam Mohammad on Thursday to mobilise people to give rousing reception to Ms Bhutto.
Speaking at a public meeting district president Haji Noor Hassan Chandio said that Benazir Bhutto would bring a revolution in the country as her family had given sacrifices for the restoration of democracy.
He said that she had bravely faced the military dictatorship in the past and appealed to the people to accord her a historic welcome, and tell the anti-democratic forces that masses were still with the PPP.
