MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 10: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Robert Brinkley called on the chief justice of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Justice Reaz Akhtar Chaudhry, and discussed issues of mutual interest with him, a court official said on Wednesday.

Additional Registrar Idrees Mughal said that it was a courtesy call by the British envoy during which the CJ thanked him for taking swift action in the case of Zahira Bibi, a woman from Mirpur whose British national husband had abducted her son. The woman flew to the United Kingdom on Wednesday to take back the custody of the 8-month old boy.

The official said that Mr Brinkley expressed his desire that a judicial protocol should also be signed between the Britain and the AJK to deal with the issues like forced marriages and child abduction. However, he added, the CJ was of the view that as the AJK judiciary was already following the UK-Pakistan judicial protocol, it could not enter into any such agreement without the approval of the foreign office of Pakistan.

Mr Brinkley also discussed other issues and problems of Pakistani Kashmiri community residing in Britain.
