ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: Opposition members on Wednesday submitted another adjournment motion to the Senate Secretariat seeking debate on military operation in Waziristan Agency.
Talking to Dawn, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) secretary for parliamentary affairs Izhar Amrohvi said the adjournment motion had been signed by eight opposition members belonging to the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), the Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and Awami National Party and it had been submitted under Rule 74 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate 1988.
The opposition senators had submitted a similar adjournment motion to the Senate Secretariat on Tuesday. In their second motion, the senators state that according to media reports, jets pounded militants with bombs killing 50 persons in an operation in North Waziristan on Tuesday.
According to the report, 250 persons have been killed in three days and thousands of people of Mirali Town of North Waziristan Agency were rendered homeless.
“The situation in the area is very critical which causes grave concern amongst the general public which needs discussion on the floor of the house adjourning the business of the Senate,” the opposition senators state in their motion.
The motion was signed by Opposition Leader Mian Raza Rabbani and Dr Safdar Abbasi of the PPP, Sadia Abbasi, Ishaq Dar and Sardar Mahtab Abbasi of the PML-N, Asfandyar Wali and Ilyas Ahmed Bilour of the ANP and Raza Mohammad Raza of the PkMAP.
