RAWALPINDI, Oct 10: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) here on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrant of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) for not complying with the court orders and sought his production in court on October 11.
ATC No 2 Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahoot ordered the police to arrest DSP Circle New Town Abdul Razzaq Janjua for not appearing in court despite repeated rejoinders in a case of not delivering a vehicle to its owner.
On Wednesday the SHO New Town appeared in court and he reprimanded for disobeying court orders of handing back the vehicle to its owner, Mohammad Zubair. It then issued warrant for the arrest of DSP.
According to details, New Town police captured a vehicle as it was allegedly used in terrorism activities and police encounter.
Mohammad Zubair claimed the ownership of the car and sought its possession through court orders (superdari) that he obtained on August 27.
The SHO New Town submitted his comments in this regard and the court ordered that the car must be given to the owner but the DSP again avoided the court. The police did not give the car to the owner.
Zubair after getting court orders went to the police station and sought possession of his car. The reader of the police station directed the car owner to contact the superintendent of police (SP) Rawal Town who referred him to DSP Janjua.
The claimant regularly visited the office of the DSP for 16 days but to no avail. After 16 days the DSP wrote to the SHO to cancel Superdari and keep the file with him.
The desperate Zubair moved a contempt petition against the SHO and DSP in the ATC and the judge asked both police officials to appear in the court on September 25 but they again remained absent.
The court yet again asked the officials to appear before the court on Wednesday but only the SHO turned up and the DSP shied away from the court which resulted in the issuance of his arrest warrants.
