KARACHI, Oct 10: A retired air vice marshal was shot dead as he got off his car to enter his office near the Usmania Restaurant in Clifton.
Police said Latif Tambra, 78, was an employee of a construction company. He was shot dead by a man who rode off on a motorcycle.
Clifton SP Azad Khan told Dawn that the victim, resident of Defence, Phase-6, had reached his office in Block 2 at around 11.30am as per his routine when a lone attacker opened fire on him, killing him instantly.
The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where sources said the victim had received four bullets, two in the abdomen, one in the chest and another in the head.
The ex-AVM was an employee of Jason Builders, police said, adding that he was also director of one of the firm’s concerns, Construction and Construction.
Boat Basin police said the company had several monetary disputes with its clients who often created scenes at its office. The failed projects of the builders included Jason Terrace and Mehran City, they said.
The police said the company had lately been dealing with issues of refund and possession with its clients.
Boat Basin police registered a case against an unknown assailant on the complaint of the victim’s daughter, Tahira.
95 cellphones taken away
As many as 95 cellular phones and 48 vehicles – 11 cars and 37 motorcycles – were taken away in parts of the city on Tuesday.
Another 17 mobile phones, six cars and 32 motorcycles, were stolen or snatched at gunpoint by Wednesday evening.
