KARACHI, Oct 10: The Pakistan People’s Party has strongly condemned the alleged harassment of its district leaders and workers in the interior of Sindh by the PML-Q leadership.
“Scores of PPP workers are being implicated in false cases at the behest of groups associated with the PML-Q in Thatta and surrounding areas,” alleged the PPP’s central information secretary Sherry Rehman in a statement on Wednesday.
She claimed that prior to the arrival of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, party workers in Sindh have been facing increasing difficulties from the ruling PML who, she claimed, was trying to “crush the movement to restore democracy.”Ms Rehman called for the immediate release of PPP workers in the interior of Sindh.
“We will not allow anybody, be it the ruling party, to harass our workers. Our workers are fully capable of confronting any move to trample our rights. The PML-Q leadership is therefore advised to show restraint and take back the false charges against our workers,” she said.
According to her, last week the Shirazi group, associated with the PML-Q, allegedly lodged a fake case against PPP workers in Thatta.
Majnoo Sirki, a PPP worker, was arrested and is still in police custody despite the fact that there were no valid grounds for the case filed against him. He has been allegedly severely tortured by the police.
