KARACHI, Oct 9: Two more female patients of dengue have recently died at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical, increasing the death toll to seven.
With the latest registration at the health department’s dengue monitoring cell, the women’s death toll has risen to five. However, an exact date of the latest deaths could not be determined. According to an official in the health department, the JPMC reported the two deaths on Tuesday.
One of the deceased women was 70. A resident of Korangi, she was admitted to the hospital on Sept 29. The other was a 29-year-old resident of Landhi. She was rushed to hospital on Oct 2.
A source in the JPMC said the two patients were brought with a history of high grade fever, vomiting, bleeding and low platelets count. The suspected dengue cases at the hospital had increased in recent days, while 18 new patients were brought in a day, the source said, adding that the patients were residents of Saddar, Defence, Green Town, Landhi, Korangi, Nazimabad, Alfalah Society, Lines Area, Malir and Shah Faisal towns.
According to the data released by the dengue monitoring cell, 38 new cases were reported at city hospitals during the last 24 hours ending at 3pm on Tuesday.
At the 10 city government and private hospitals, 114 patients of viral haemorrhagic or dengue fever were still admitted. Of the total 698 admissions made at city government hospitals during the last seven weeks, 328 have been tested positive for dengue fever.
